Description
As a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (or SARM), YK-11 is frequently used for its potential therapeutic properties, able to help combat a range of issues, such as improper muscle growth, obesity, and osteoporosis. SARMs are known to act much like anabolic steroids but without the androgenic properties. As it’s structurally divergent from typical SARMs, YK-11 is closer in construction to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a naturally occurring androgen.
YK-11 binds selectively to androgen receptors, typically in the muscle and bone cells. As such, it is in the process of having several therapeutic applications tested. For instance, pre-clinical trials have shown that it may be able to combat muscle-wasting issues, such as muscular dystrophy, helping with muscle preservation and growth by binding with the androgen receptors in skeletal muscle.
As it is able to bind with bone cells, YK-11 is also being observed for its potential use in treating osteoporosis. There is a hypothesis that it is able to improve bone density and strength, which may help to fight the symptoms of osteoporosis and similar conditions. The two qualities of strengthening bone and muscle suggest that YK-11 may be used to slow down or even reverse age-related declines in the muscles and bones.
While more research is required, and being done, to test its therapeutic qualities, there is evidence to suggest that it could play a significant role in treating osteoporosis, muscle wasting, obesity, the effects of aging, and more.
